We have never seen -- nor have we heard of --
a complete 1960 store display #854.

All we have to go by is a
picture in the 1960 Mattel Dealer Catalog.

The picture shows a full-color cardboard display
that looks to be about 26 inches high
and about 36 inches wide to which are attached
six clear plastic tubes with lids.

In the tubes are six dressed #4 Ponytail Barbie dolls.

FOR SALE HERE IS ONE OF THE TUBES WITH
A #4 BRUNETTE PONYTAIL DRESSED IN "WEDDING DAY ENSEMBLE."

The tube is thin plastic, with a removable lid
and a pink cardboard liner on the bottom.

In the back of the tube are two silver metal "buttons"
that most-likely snapped into the cardboard display.

The tube is 12-3/4 inches high and 7 inches in diameter.

The doll is on a #4 stand - black disc bottom
with a Barbie R mark with a black t-shaped wire
that fits into the base.

The Wedding Day outfit is complete with all accessories.

Plus it has the white pleated panties
that were not marketed until four years later in a Lingerie Pak.

The satin bodice of the dress is a creamy ivory;
the satin underskirt is still white.

The doll has the head and limbs of a #4,
but the torso is that of a #3 and is pale.

The lips are a light tomato-red.

There is light green at the ears from pearl earrings
that are present but have been taken out.

The tube has a few depressions
(you would too after 63 years),
but is in remarkably good -- and clear -- shape.

The hair is still in the original factory set with intact upper wrap.

The bottom rubber band has rotted and fallen away,
and the curl at the end of the ponytail has relaxed.

Interestingly enough, the doll on the stand is just loose inside the tube --
it appears never to have been attached to the bottom of the tube.

This is as rare a Barbie item as we have ever had for sale.

Overall Excellent and Exceedingly RARE --
