JOE'S 2019 ONLINE
HOLIDAY ADVENT CALENDAR

MERRY CHRISTMAS

And Welcome to Day 25 of our 2019 Holiday Advent Calendar.  This year we have been celebrating Radio City Music Hall, the amazing Rockettes, who have graced the Radio City Music Hall stage since 1932, and the many movies that premiered on the Radio City Music Hall screen.

Accurately self-proclaimed as “The Showplace of the Nation,” Radio City Music Hall opened on December 27, 1932, as a cornerstone of Rockefeller Center.

It was planned as the ultimate theatre for live performances - everything from popular entertainment to opera and ballet and symphonic music.  All of those elements were represented in the first night's program, but with a five-hour running time, it was a tad too long, to say the least.   The critics castigated the show, but the theatre itself got rave reviews.  It was — and is — the ultimate Art Deco masterpiece of architecture and interior design.

So, two weeks after opening (and losing about $100K a week,) the format was switched to a movie and a stage show - four times a day.  And this was the rule at Radio City Music Hall until 1979 when the film business had so changed, it was no longer enough to sustain the theatre.  For the last 40 years, Radio City has become, as was the original plan, the premier location in New York for live performances.

But from 1933 to 1979, a film could have no better launch than premiering at Radio City Music Hall.  Over 600 films had that honor, and for the past 24+ days, we have been spotlighting several dozen of them with film clips and trivia tidbits.

Every day a different movie (or two) has been featured, along with links to video clips from the movie or from the stage show, or about the movie or the stage show, or about Radio City or about the Rockettes.  So, even those of you who temporarily swore off doll purchases in December (hard to imagine though that is) hopefully have enjoyed coming back every day just to see the video clips

and have also enjoyed seeing the different assortment of doll items that we have featured each day from our website, JoesList.com.

Thank you for sharing the season with us.

We are going to keep the Holiday Advent Calendar up on our website until New Year's so that you can enjoy it at your leisure.  The doll-related items will also stay listed (as long as we have them in stock).

Today is Day 25.  Just click on "Day 25" below -- and let the fun continue.
