THE HAYNES SISTERS
1954 & Forever

Betty Haynes (1954), Judy Haynes (1954)

In the movie “White Christmas,” the Haynes Sisters’ nightclub act seems to consist of only one song.

This one:

Luckily, the Haynes Sisters recorded the song, so a couple of song-and-dance men -- Bob Wallace and Phil Davis -- could lip-synch to it while showing their garters and cracking each other up:

Sisters

Here’s a funny story about the song “Sisters” you won’t read anywhere else:

Many years ago, a friend of ours was hired to write a script for a movie to star Barbra Streisand and Goldie Hawn, in which they were to play sisters.

When the writer was preparing to meet with the two stars, we introduced the writer to the song “Sisters” and strongly suggested the writer figure out how to create a scene in the script where the two stars would sing the song together.

This the writer did.

At the meeting, when the writer played the song for the two stars, Goldie’s response was: “Let me get this straight.  You want ME to sing with HER?!!!!!!”

Apparently, the terrifying prospect of singing with arguably the greatest female vocalist of the second half of the 20th Century set Goldie’s hair on fire and her brain cells exploding left and right.

So.  On this, Christmas day, we thank you for sharing the holiday season with us, and we leave you with an an incredibly-appropriate song sung by the Haynes Sisters (and others):

White Christmas

Merry Christmas
