We call this "The
Mint-Plus Collection" because none of these outfits has ever been on a
doll.
The original owner -- an adult woman -- bought these new starting in
1961, took the outfits out of the original packaging, and then stored
them in tissue paper, where they've remained until now.
It's like getting a "never removed from box" outfit without the guilt
of opening up the box (and without the expense of an NRFB outfit,
either.)
Mint
Plus means perfect belts never buckled, hose never on a doll's leg,
elastic that's never been stretched, straw hats perfect from the
factory, pearl drop necklaces with sparkling gold chains and a Solo in the Spotlight
dress that has all its shiny black flakes. And the colors are
so vivid, everything still looks brand new. Have you ever
seen a Benefit
Performance skirt with the bows still red, not faded
orange?
There are five
dozen 900 series outfits, six dozen 1600 series outfits, over forty
early Pak sets, three dozen early Mod Era outfits, three dozen Francie
outfits and 10 never-played-with dolls -- all Mint Plus and
complete. There's even one Skipper outfit and one Ken Pak.
The original owner's interest expanded beyond Barbie from time to time
-- there are over a dozen hard-to-find Tressy outfits, eight Tammy and
family outfits, two rare Tina Cassini outfits, and a hot Honey
West Secret Agent
outfit with black spikes and a gun!
